How Do I Safely Service Tractor Hydraulic Lines?

We want to teach you tips for safely servicing your tractor’s hydraulic lines.

If you do not feel that you understand these tips and strategies, or can perform them safely, consult your tractor dealer, owner’s manual, or local mechanic.

Here they are:

  • Shut down the engine. This is super important.

  • Release the hydraulic system’s pressure. Do this prior to disconnecting or connecting the hydraulic lines.

  • Avoid getting in contact with high-pressure hydraulic fluids. Pressurized hydraulic fluids can cause serious injury. Plus, fluid can penetrate the skin.

  • Check for leaks. Run a woodblock or piece of cardboard along the hydraulic lines and connections.

  • Do not apply heat or weld hydraulic fluid lines using an open flame. This can cause a major issue.

  • If high-pressure hydraulic fluid penetrates the skin, immediately go to a doctor. (Fluids can cause gangrene, so you must get immediate medical attention.)

  • Inspect and tighten all connections. Do this before applying pressure to the hydraulic system.

If you need any further help or have any questions about hydraulic systems, tractors, or anything else, please contact your dealer, local mechanic, or call us at 602-734-9944. Please ask about our current new and used tractor supply.
