I Need to Lubricate My PTO

Discover how to properly lubricate a PTO (power take-off) clutch.

Grease the PTO Operating Shaft:  The operating shaft should be greased every 3 months or 100 hours of use.

Grease the Bronze Collar: The bronze collar on the PTO should be greased daily or every 10 hours of use.

Grease the Shielded Bearings:  The shielded bearings on the PTO should be greased every 3 months or 100 hours of use.

Check and Maintain Proper Oil Levels:  The main bearings on the PTO should be filled to the proper oil level, checked every 8-10 hours, and drained and refilled with SAE 30 engine oil every 6 months or 1,000 hours.

Avoid Excessive Lubrication:  The search results caution against over-lubricating the PTO clutch, as too much lubrication can also cause issues.

Use the Recommended Lubricants:  The manufacturer's recommendations for the type and amount of grease and oil should be followed.

The key is to establish a regular maintenance schedule and use the proper lubrication techniques to keep the PTO clutch operating smoothly and prevent premature wear or failure.
