Tips for Safely Servicing Tractor Tires

Make sure to regularly check your tire air pressure.

If you find that the air pressure is low, stop using the tractor.

Identify the cause. Fix the tire right away.

Servicing tires can be dangerous. It is important that you follow some very specific safety guidelines. This will help prevent injuries.

Here are some safety tips to follow when servicing tires:

  • Keep tires at the recommended air pressure level. (Do not exceed this level.)

  • Check the tire and rim for bubbles, cuts, damaged rims, and missing nuts/bolts.

  • Do not mount a tire on a rim without the proper training/equipment.

  • Use a safety cage when working on splitrim wheels.

  • Never attempt to weld or apply heat into a tire assembly and rim. (Heat can cause an increase in tire pressure, causing an explosion. Welding can structurally weaken or deform the rim.)

  • Do not put any flammable gasses or liquid in a tire.

  • Do not stand in front of, or over a tire assembly during inflation.

  • Use a clip-on chuck and extension hose long enough for the tire to be inflated from a safe distance.
